Singapore Basketball Centre, Thursday, 3 Dec, 2009 – You could safely say that most of best under-15 basketball talents were represented in the Milo Youth U15 Cup when a 2.03m Caucasian boy turned out for local club Whye Nam (Red). Rarely would you find European students playing, much less a 15-year-old giant!
Despite towering over all his peers by at least a head, Rots, currently studying in Overseas Family School, could not inspire his team to a victory. Instead, it was Tagawa Blue that fought courageously for a 53-42 win.
However, both teams managed to qualify for the third round of competition where they will meet six other teams in two separate groups fighting for a place in the semi finals.
Missing out narrowly on the day’s six qualifying matches was Hwa Chong Institution, despite their two-wins and one-loss record. This was due to a countback on points and T-Net Club (Red) and Tagawa (White) qualified at Hwa Chong’s expense.
Both Tagawa and T-Net clubs dominate this year’s competitions as both their teams manage to make it to the last eight. Yet their continued good run of results are by no means assured, seeing that Siglap Youth has also qualified without a loss in the competition so far.
