National Stadium, Wednesday, January 6, 2010 – Singapore went down 1-3 to Iran in an AFC Asian Cup qualifying game tonight.

Iran qualify for the Asian Cup by virtue of tonight’s win which give them sole possession of first place with 10 points.

The loss leaves Singapore in third place behind Thailand in second. Thailand and Jordan played out a 0-0 draw and although both Singapore and Thailand have six points each, Thailand have a better head-to-head record against Singapore.

Jordan are in last place with five points.

If Thailand loses its last game against Iran away in Tehran, Singapore can afford to draw away against Jordan on March 3rd.

Only the top two qualify for the Asian Cup in 2011.
