National University of Singapore Sports and Recreation Centre, Saturday, January 9, 2010 – Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) registered their second victory of the NUS-Great Eastern Water Polo Challenge with a 20-4 rout of Temasek Polytechnic (TP) in Group A.

Andy Ou led the scoring for NYP with seven goals while his teammates Danny Yeo and Leisher Lee both contributed four goals each in an impressive victory over a determined TP side. With the win, NYP now lie in second place with six points from two matches and level with last year's runners-up Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

Despite taking an early lead after 45 seconds courtesy of captain Tan Li Jie, TP were unable to hold on to their slender advantage. NYP quickly stormed back with Khalis equalising with a shot from a tight angle before Andy got his first of the morning when he hammered his shot into the back of the net. This goal gave NYP their first lead, one they would not let go of, within four minutes of the match.

NYP then continued to dominate the match with Leisher Lee scoring as a result of a 6 on 5 while Danny scored two in the closing minutes of the quarter to give NYP a 5-1 lead heading into the second quarter.

Andy got things going for NYP as he scored a minute into the second quarter to make it 6-1. However, TP were not going down without a fight. Donovan replied with a goal of his own after a pass by Li Jie sent him through.

There was no stopping NYP though, as a Danny Yeo goal sandwiched between Andy's third and fourth goal, extended the lead to 9-2. Zachary then added another two as TP struggled to break down NYP's defense. The half added with a comfortable 11-2 lead to NYP.

Much of the same followed in the third quarter with NYP exerting their dominance on the game. Although TP managed to pull a goal back after five minutes through Li Jie who scored three goals, NYP stretched their lead to 12 goals before a buzzer-beating shot from NYP’s Neo Hong Koon made it 16-3 to NYP at the end of the third.

NYP easily wrapped up the match in the fourth with Andy scoring two goals more goals as NYP hit the 20-goal mark.

"It was a good game and I believe my team put in a lot of effort and as a result, we played very well, in terms of game play and how we executed the plays," said NYP's captain Jonathan Mok.

When asked about their next match against Ngee Ann Polytechnic (NP) to decide who takes top spot in Group A, he was rather confident, saying, "We are definitely aiming for top spot and while we know everyone in the (NP) team poses potential danger, we are quite confident. On a scale of one to ten, probably about 7 or 8."
