Nanyang Technological University, Wednesday, January 13, 2010 - Singapore Polytechnic (SP) triumphed 75-72 over last season's second runners-up Nanyang Polytechnic (NYP) in an Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Basketball Championship match.
SP led 33-27 at half-time but NYP rallied in the third to end the quarter just one point behind SP at 45-46.
With time winding down quickly in the fourth, two consecutive three-pointers from NYP’s #1 brought his team to within a point at 70-71.
But SP nailed four free throws, with Lim Wai Sian who is also a Singapore Slingers player, showing nerves of steel to make two, extending their lead to 75-71.
Although NYP #21 scored with a layup, SP hung on for the 75-71 win.
"The match was very exciting. With this victory, we aim to get into the semi-finals," said the overjoyed captain from SP.
In SP’s next match, they defeated Republic Polytechnic 63-55 to seal their spot as runners-up of Group B behind Temasek Polytechnic. They will next face the much-improved Ngee Ann Polytechnic in the semi-final.
