CCAB, Tuesday, January 27, 2010 - The Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road) saw off opponents Peicai Secondary in their final Round One match of the B Division Boys South Zone Basketball Championship.
The win ensured ACS(BR) were not last in their group as they finished one point ahead of Peicai on seven points.
It was a tough match from the start as both teams prevented each other from scoring. An early foul was not converted, and neither were two free throws gifted to Zhen Hao (Peicai, #11) in the first two minutes of the game.
It took 3:12 min before first blood was drawn when ACS(BR) #10 drew a foul and converted one of his two free throws. Peicai replied with two points from their #6. Both teams then tried to outscore each other with three-pointers, with Peicai sinking two three-pointers and ACS(BR) one.
ACS(BR) stepped up their game in the second quarter, and it was their #7 who put his name on the scoreboard several times with six points to his name. Peicai could only manage six points to ACS(BR)’s 10, and went into halftime trailing by one point.
ACS(BR) continued the pressure in the third quarter, and scored 14 points in total. Peicai on the other hand, seemed to be buckling, and could not find their form. They put in only six points, to see the score gap widen as they headed into the final quarter.
ACS(BR) put the game beyond Peicai’s reach in the fourth quarter. ACS(BR) #7 put in seven points and their #14, six points in a 17-point performance by the team in the final quarter to eventually seal the game 45-31.
Both teams did not qualify for the second round.
