Nanyang Polytechnic, Wedneday, January 27, 2010 – The women’s 3000m, men’s 10,000m, and men’s pole vault events kicked off the inaugural Polytechnic-Institute of Technical Education (POL-ITE) Track and Field Championships.
The remaining 33 events will be contested over this weekend at the Bukit Gombak Stadium, with a total of 99 medals still up for grabs.
Middle distance fans particularly will be treated to a feast of fierce competition, with familiar names such as Fang Jianyong and Raviin Muthu Kumar, both of Singapore Polytechnic (SP), set to go head-to-head in the men's 800m final on Saturday.
Both athletes will be expected to give their team a huge points boost by going 1-2 in the event. They will also be aiming to deliver the elusive sub-2min performances, considered to be the benchmark for any athlete aiming to be among the best 800m runners in the nation.
Don't miss out on all the action, and head on down to the Bukit Gombak Stadium this weekend for two exciting afternoons of track-and-field competition!
