Kallang Netball Centre, Wednesday, July 2, 2008 – In the U-14 Netball League, Commonwealth Secondary blew away River Valley High 50-13. Despite the score, River Valley kept Commonwealth on their toes and did not let them rest on their laurels even when they were losing by more than 15 points.

Under a dull overcast sky, Commonwealth donned their bright cyan coloured shirts while River Valley wore their black and white stripped jerseys. Accurate shooting by the Commonwealth GA and GS were instrumental in giving their team a 12-point lead at the end of the 1st quarter.

Commonwealth continued to pound River Valley in the 2nd quarter, scoring seven unanswered points with River Valley barely having any possession of the ball. River Valley managed a point finally but by half time, they were down 5-21.

The 3rd quarter started off with the River Valley GA scoring accompanied by the RSAF planes thundering overhead. At 23-7, a collision in the middle of the court between the River Valley WD and Commonwealth WA resulted in the WD player going off dazed and injured. A nice defensive play by the River Valley GK when she snatched the ball away from the hands of the Commonwealth GS was a brief highlight for River Valley as they ended the quarter down 10-42.

It was more of the same in the 4th quarter with Commonwealth stretching their lead further and it was no surprise they finished 50-13 winners.

Commonwealth top the division with 6 points while the other teams trail with 4 points or less. River Valley players should be congratulated for putting up a good fight and having that never-say-die attitude till the end.
