Some 500 youths will be flooding Siloso Beach (Sapphire Area), to take part in Surf ‘N’ Sweat 2010 this Sunday, 7 Feb 2010 from morning to evening. The event, which is organised by the Nanyang Technological University Sports Club, is open to the public.

More than 250 people will be taking part in the main event, Surf ‘N’ Sweat, a biathlon-like competition that is fun, yet just as challenging. Instead of conventional swimming and running, participants will paddle out 400m to sea on a surfboard and back to shore, followed by a 6km run along the beach.

This year will see the largest number of participants with intellectual disabilities - 47 in total - taking part in the Special Olympics category. These participants include members of Special Olympics Singapore, Silent Dragon @ Sembawang, hearing-impaired and other individuals.

Surf ‘N’ Sweat will start in the early morning with the Men's Open flag-off at 8.30am. The Women's Open will be flagged off at 11am by guest-of-honour Mr Zainudin Nordin, Mayor, Central Singapore District. Mr Zainudin will also present prizes to the winners of the men and women's open, institutional and Special Olympics categories thereafter.

In addition to the Surf ‘N’ Run, a second and new main event this year is the Surf ‘N’ Hunt. This competition, which will start at 1.30pm, comprises a similar surf route, followed by a treasure hunt around Sentosa island. Surf ‘N’ Hunt has two categories - Lovers' Challenge and Team Challenge. As a lead-up to Valentine's Day, the Lovers' Challenge participants can pair up with their partner, to surf and complete the treasure hunt together.
