CCAB, Friday, February 19, 2010 – Queensway Secondary are through to the semi-finals of the South Zone B Division boys Basketball Championship after they defeated Yuying Secondary 50-42 in Group Y.

After losing to Guangyang by a single point two days before, Queensway had to win their final match against the undefeated Yuying to qualify for the next round. Queensway’s Johann Yeo led the scoring for his side with 16 points as they stepped up their game in an intense encounter.

But it wasn’t easy. Yuying looked like they would take the match comfortably in the early goings as they sprinted to an 8-0 lead. However, Queensway battled back, stepping up their defense to prevent Yuying from making easy shots in the second quarter and managing to take the lead at 13-11.

It continued to be a close affair throughout the second and third quarters before Queensway pulled away in the final quarter. Control of the paint and fast breaks were the key for Queensway as they held on for a 50-42 victory.

With the victory, Queensway finish top of Group Y and will face Raffles Institution in one semi-final while Yuying will play against the undefeated Peirce Secondary in another. Both semi-finals will be played on Monday, February 22, 2009 at CCAB, Evans Road at 1430hrs.

In other matches, Gan Eng Seng beat Kent Ridge 60-30 in Group X and Fairfield Methodist overcame Balestier Hill 51-46.
