Clementi Sports Hall, Thursday, March 4, 2010 – Unity Secondary continued their unbeaten march with a big 93-27 win over New Town Secondary in the semi-finals of the West Zone B Division Basketball Championship.

The physical battle against the big boys of Unity took its toll on the New Town boys as a 10-point first quarter output was never matched again as the team fell into single-digit scoring for the final three quarters.

When they did manage to drive inside, New Town struggled to finish off lay ups or rebounds. Unity also showed a lightning quick transition from defense to offense and were able to get out of full-court presses with ease.

“You need good perimeter shooting against Unity,” said New Town coach Elvin Chong. “When you don’t take your chances against Unity, they come back to score on you quickly.”

“Most of my team are Sec 3s. It’s a young squad and going to the nationals is a foundation for them to learn. Our target this year was zonal top four,” added coach Chong.

“It’s stressful playing Unity,” said Shamir, New Town’s top scorer from the game. “It’s hard to play against them. They have no weakness. They have almost everything – height, accuracy and speed.”

“We are a bit worried about the upcoming nationals because we don’t have much experience. Half the team are Sec 3s,” added Shamir.
