The organisers of the 2010 Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in Singapore recently announced that tickets for the event will go on sale worldwide from Wednesday, March 31st.

There are three tiers of pricing – S$10 (preliminaries), S$15 (quarter- and semi-finals) and S$30 (finals) – for all events, regardless of the relative popularity of different sports.

Three events are free – cycling, sailing and triathlon.

Last year’s Asian Youth Games (AYG) saw a mix of poor attendances and sold-out venues. At the AYG table-tennis, football and beach volleyball venues, seats were aplenty but at the basketball tournament held in Anglican High, fans were turned away.

The AYG bowling event was also packed out though it has to be added that both basketball and bowling were held in small venues that did not have large seating capacities to begin with.

The organisers have also taken the needs of visitors to Singapore into account by bundling free transport into the purchase of the tickets. Ticket holders will get a pre-paid card that entitles them to a maximum of four MRT/LRT train rides and unlimited bus rides on the day of the event for every ticket purchased.
