Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School, Monday, March 29, 2010 – National Junior College beat 5-0 Meridian Junior College in the National A Division Boys Table Tennis Championship.
Low Cheng Hong took the first point for NJC when he beat the MJC first singles player 3-1. The game started as though it would be a one-sided game in favour of Cheng Hong until the second set when the MJC paddler fought back to win back a set to level the score 1-1.
It was an easy time for the MJC paddler, but all these changed when Cheng Hong calmed down and executed excellent shots. He went on to win the next two sets and clinched his first win.
NJC team captain Brandon Boh and Ng Jun Wei then found themselves one set down against MJC in the first doubles game after unforced errors cost them the first set. The NJC duo readjusted their tactics in time to come from behind to win 3-1 to secure their team a 2-0 overall lead.
NJC’s second singles player Wu Jun Neng then took on Wei Zheng of MJC. Jun Neng struggled to find his form and a couple of unforced errors on his backhand cost him several crucial points. Anxiety got the better of Jun Neng and he committed a mistake when receiving Wei Zheng's service, costing him the first set.
After consulting his coach, Sen Yew Fai, Jun Neng got a clearer picture of how to counter his opponent's tactics. With a good forehand service, Jun Neng raced to a 4-0 lead. A steady backhand and forehand was all that was needed to secure the game, finishing off the set with a top spin to his opponent's backhand, rendering Wei Zheng rooted to the ground. Jun Neng eventually won 3-1 to secure the overall winning point.
With the game over as a contest, it was now a matter of playing for pride. The second doubles pair of Lee Joo Cheun and Quek Wu Hong from NJC took an attacking stance while all the MJC doubles pair could do was to just defend and watch the ball fly past them. With good teamwork, and a steady top spin, Wu Hong and Joo Chuen totally dominated the whole game, and refuse to give their opponents any chances of fighting back. The game was won easily with a score of 3-0.
A confident-looking Tan Sheng Han of MJC then took on Wong Si Jun of NJC in the third singles. However, Si Jun was undaunted and delivered excellent top spin shots as he took control of the first set, winning 11-4.
Si Jun's domination continued through into the second set where he demolished his opponent 11-4 before winning the third and final set to wrap up the fifth point for NJC.

Ohh.. Sorry to hear about your wardrobe malfunction man.. if there really was one. On 2nd thought i wouldnt want to part with my money to get you a new shirt. How about wearing your jacket over it instead? I think that would be a great idea as it would keep everything inside if u zip it up. I actually rather appreciate your ‘showcase’ but it shocked the shit out of weizheng, rendering him rooted to the ground. I think you would know what i mean. Malicious? Nah. These are just my 2 cents worth, just like this article which is written with an inflated head (and body?). But yeah i can understand your need for all this glorifying attention. How about having a chat over some PiZzAs?? Im sure that would keep you looking forward to monday 🙂
Yes, i agree with jonathan. This is truly well-written article, I’ve seen the original article on facebook and was in awe of your ostentatiously lofty command in english. If you have decided to put down MJC just because of triumphing over them in the area of table tennis, MJC’s guys and girls floorball team too destroyed NJC team. This clearly shows the difference in the level of sportsmanship that you(Mr. Wu Jun Neng) possess between MJC’s sportsmen. Winning is one thing, but you should at least respect MJC’s sportsmen. I strongly believe that the report made by you on facebook is offensive to some of the MJC players and displays your condescending attitude which taints the reputation of your reputable college.
Cheers.
Mr Wu, what a well written article and i congratulate you on winning your match with your amazing forehand service. But i seriously hope that u do not ever step out of your house in such an undersized shirt again. Its alright if you’re buff and muscular but sadly we both know that thats not really the case.. So please try to be considerate as it almost scared the shit out people. Lastly, you could contact me if u still couldnt get a XXXL sized shirt and i would gladly buy u one.
Cheers!:)
Hi Mr Ong, thanks for your compliment. To get things clear, it is/has not been my initiative to wear an undersize shirt. This is due to a wardrobe problem where the wrong size was ordered. I knw im not exactly buff or what, but your post sounds pretty malicious. Since you’ve seen me in the size L shirt, im sure your a paddler yourself. Why dont you come up to me so we can have a chat on how your gonna help me buy a new shirt?
Your help will be greatly appreciated 🙂
how do i upload photo’s for this match?
I’m the author of this article.
@Wu Junneng: you can send the photos to redcrew@redsports.sg
By the way, Junneng, your article seems to be missing a seconds doubles match which totally confused me. So if you can do your doubles teammates the favour of sending me the missing paragraph, I will add it into this story. I’m sure they are wondering why you left them out of the story.
