ACS(I), Wednesday, March 30, 2010 – Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) mowed down Raffles Institution 67-0 on the back of 11 tries to march unbeaten into the semi-finals of the B Division Rugby Championship.
The score would have been 69-0 except that the referee and both linesmen somehow contrived to miss a successful conversion.
ACS(I) started out strong with James Morgan (#8) grabbing five points for his school in less than eight minutes.
Following James' footsteps, Chun Lung (#28) pocketed another five points, and with the conversion, ACS(I) were pulling out to a 12-0 head start.
Raffles put in all that they had but could not withstand the ACS(I) onslaught, with Winson (#12) breezing through effortlessly with another converted try for a 19-0 lead.
Though Zhi Yang (Raffles #8) Subastian Tan (Raffles #9) made attempts to drag Raffles back into the game, Chun Lung and Harvey of ACS(I) made sure that was not possible as Harvey scored try with James kicking his third successful conversion to give ACS(I) a commanding 26-0 lead at half-time.
In the second half, three tries by Harvey and Hakim plus two conversions made the score 45-0.
The rout was truly now well on and Joey (ACS #15), Jun Leong (#7), Harvey and James added more tries to finish up the game 67-0 winners over Raffles.
"We played well during the game. We give credit to our opponents who gave us a hard game. However, we were not complacent and we played to our best," Harvey Aldrin said on behalf of his ACS(I) team.
When asked about the challenge by Saints' captain Jonathan Loo that St Andrew’s were out to beat ACS(I), Harvey said: "Well, all I can say is that we’ll face any challenge, and as said before , every game in rugby is just yet again another game of rugby."
ACS(I) will now take on St Joseph’s Institution in one semi-final while St Andrew’s will play RI in the other. Both semi-finals are scheduled to take place on Wednesday, April 7th, at the Old Police Academy. The first game is scheduled to kick off at 3pm.
