Kuala Lumpur, Thursday, July 15, 2010 — Singapore went down 1-3 to Malaysia in the girls’ semi-finals of the ASEAN School Games badminton competition.

Our girls had beaten Vietnam 3-2 in the group stages after losing their opening match 5-0 to Thailand.

Sonia Cheah of Malaysia beat Thai-born Singapore representive Triyachart 21-9, 21-16. Singapore won their first point when Liang Xiaoyu beat Lim Chiew Sien of Malaysia 21-14, 21-11.

Singapore’s doubles pair of Lim Wei Chi-Cheang Yen Ping then went down 8-21, 16-21 to the Malaysian pair of Lee Meng Yean-Chow Mei Kuan.

Citra Putri Sari could not keep Singapore in the hunt for a final spot when she lost 7-21, 18-21 to Yang Li Lian.

Our boys lost both their match ups against Indonesia and Malaysia.

Malaysia eventually emerged champions in both the girls’ and boys’ categories. Their boys beat Thailand 3-0 in the final while their girls saw off Indonesia by the same margin as well.
