Raffles Institution, Friday, July 17, 2010 — Raffles Institution breezed through their second round match in the 2010 National C Division Rugby Championship against Jurong Secondary School with an 83-0 victory.

With a clean sweep of matches so far throughout the competition, Raffles Institution were determined to keep their unbeaten record intact, while Jurong Secondary was just trying to snag a try to make their mark.

Within the first 10 minutes of the game, Jarod Ng (Raffles #14) and Samuel Goh (Raffles #15) scored two tries to give their school a 10-0 lead.

Not long after, Raffles’ Chia Wei Shern (#5) and Kyle Chong (#12) scored a try each. Jarod Ng (#14), assisted by Kyle (#12), scored another try and two conversions to extend the lead by 19 points.

During the next 10 minutes, Jurong Secondary’s #40 finally gained possession for his school for the first time only for it to be taken away seconds after by the whistle. A scrum ensued, and Raffles regained possession, scoring another try.

Raffles continued their control when Marcel Low (#2) threw in the ball to Ho Yishu (#8) who scored the next try which Jarod once again converted to bring their score to 36-0.

By half time, Syahid (#7) and Ho Yishu scored four tries, with Jarod Ng converting three of them, making the score 62-0.

In the second half, Park Chang Kyu (Raffles #11) took the spotlight when he converted all three tries by Maverick Lim (#10) and Afiq (#13) to finish the game 83-0 winners.

Raffles’ co-captain, Marcel Low, shared that the team will do their best to maintain their clean record as far as possible throughout their competition.

He also added: “We are strong enough contenders for this year’s title. As long as we work as a team, nothing is impossible.”
