Singapore Combined Schools emerge third in ASEAN tennis competition

Jurong Country Club, Thursday to Sunday, August 14-17, 2008 – At the same time that Singapore’s women table tennis team was breaking new grounds at the Olympics, a team of young Singaporean tennis players were battling it out with their ASEAN schools counterparts at the ASEAN Schools Tennis Championship.

After four days of intense tennis play, both Singaporean boys and girls teams finished in third position, behind champions Thailand and runners-up Indonesia.

Besides the games, the players also enjoyed a great dose of fun as they were treated to a city tour of Singapore on the final day.

The ASEAN schools tennis competition has had a rich history, starting twenty-six years ago in Thailand. Participants in the ASEAN inter school games next year can look forward to a whole new format of Olympic-like tournaments to be hosted in Thailand.
