Singapore Sports School, Wednesday, August 18, 2010 — Adeline Winata and Pang Sheng Jun qualified for their first individual semi-finals in the YOG swimming competition.

Adeline’s time of 31.43 seconds in the women’s 50 metre Backstroke was 15th fastest in the field. It also improved on her season’s best of 31.50.

Sheng Jun advanced from his men’s 50m Butterfly heat with his 25.63s performance, placing him 10th overall. It was a new personal best of him and made him the second fastest Singaporean for this event this year, just behind Dzuhaili Mohd Kamal’s 25.57.

Amanda Lim missed out on the women’s 200m Freestyle final by just 0.59 seconds with her time of 2 minutes 4.68 seconds. Adeline, swimming just about half an hour after her earlier race, finished in 2:12.69.

The men’s 4x100m Medley relay team concluded the morning heats by claiming a major scalp on the way to finishing 10th overall. The quartet of Rainer Ng, Sheng Jun, Clement Lim and Arren Quek finished in a time of 3:52.89 which was 0.09 seconds quicker than that of the United States of America, albeit fielding a weaker squad in these Games.

Adeline will swim her semi-finals tonight at 6.35pm, and Sheng Jun at 7.24pm. Sandwiched between the two will arguably be the main draw for Singapore fans tonight. Rainer will be competing for medal honours in the 50m Backstroke final, at 7pm.
