Hey athletes,
If you’ve been wondering whether there was more to Red Sports than just basketball, I wouldn’t blame you. In fact, someone just wrote me the following:
“… many of my friends actually tell me that they have lost interest in reading redsports, just going there routinely to check if there’s any news (other than basketball) before going out. and most of the time, there isn’t. I think the over-emphasis on basketball is very much overshadowing the other sports, which have happened at around the same time, such as sailing, air rifle/pistol nationals, among others. thus, i do hope that you will try to place less emphasis on basketball and actually on other sports.”
I think the writer has a very valid point and I thought I would share it with all of you because I am sure some of you feel this way.
I think you guys know that I’ve been trying to encourage as many of you to contribute to this site. Why? Because right now, I am the only one working on this site, and I can’t do it full-time because I still do non-sports photography shoots to fund this site. I am raising funds for this site so that I can do it full-time. At the moment, I’ve raised a total of $433.07 through one donation and six subscribers. I’ve also sold $194 worth of pictures to four different people. That’s about 3 dollars a day since I started.
Despite this, Red Sports now has 541 postings and thousands of pictures since 1st Feb 2007. I’ve received contributions from teachers and students but most of the stories are still generated by me and some good friends who have helped me for little or no money. However, I think you would agree that there is no other media out there that has provided you this level of coverage.
So I’ll keep going on. Now and then, you’ll have to excuse the skew in coverage because that’s all the time I can afford. Next week, it’s going to be nothing but netball action because of the 5 Nations Cup. So it will look like a netball site for awhile.
I’ve had a lot of fun doing this and I’ve meet wonderful athletes who take my breath away with their ability. I hope to meet more of you in the coming months and years so that I can tell your story.
Just remember to say, “Hello, uncle Les.”
Red Sports. Always Game.

hey les. Some people need to realize that you’re working alone in here. Maybe they could help you out with the coverages on top of their comments.
There are sports in singapore that really need the help of this website due to newspapers only covering whatever the majority of people want to read.
Therefore thanks to you ! Some of us actually have more to read other than whats found on the newspapers. Which by the way seems to cover the S.League only !
Doing a Fanstastic job Les. Well Done !
Maybe someday, you’ll be covering more than just school sports, maybe a level above? club competitions?
Thanks for your comments, noobcake.
I think what the person wrote about there being too much basketball is fair comment.
This site is meant for all sports.
Thanks for visiting.
Hey Uncle Les, Most of us understand that it’s pretty hard work to manage this site, as for the rest, they are just being inconsiderate as they’ve never put themselves in your shoes.
Basketball is generally a popular sport as compared to others, so generally there are more contributers for it as well.
Be understanding, people!
😀
havent checked back here in a while. but yeah. totally agree about the seasons thing. just be patient for next years school matches to start la. for now, its mostly exam period in schools anyway. cheers till next year! hahaha.
Thank you Whee, thank you Jonk. Your support for Red Sports is much appreciated. 🙂
HEY UNCLE LES, YOU’RE DOING A REAAAAAALLY GREAT JOB, KEEP IT UP, AND DON’T STOP IMPROVING!! TAKE CARE, and see you around! 😀 Yup, we really really appreciate every single post, every single photograph.
Respect to my main man Leslie. You’re doing a great job, and lots of folks out there appreciate it man. Hope to catch you up soon.
i personally do not feel that that was a rude comment as he brought his point across straight with no offensive language whatsoever.
i myself is one of the above mentioned (losing interest in reading, too much basketball) but that does not deny the fact that this is still a wonderful site.
However, with comments such as those to help Uncle Les himself, i am sure that the standard of this website will and can be brought to a better high.
Keep up the good work uncle les =D
hey uncle les, ignore that insensitive person. i mean, different sports/games have their seasons are different times. so i believe most readers know when to come and check out news for the sport of their interest. dont let sucha rude remark get you down!
what do you get at uncle les island?
