Hey athletes,

If you’ve been wondering whether there was more to Red Sports than just basketball, I wouldn’t blame you. In fact, someone just wrote me the following:

“… many of my friends actually tell me that they have lost interest in reading redsports, just going there routinely to check if there’s any news (other than basketball) before going out. and most of the time, there isn’t. I think the over-emphasis on basketball is very much overshadowing the other sports, which have happened at around the same time, such as sailing, air rifle/pistol nationals, among others. thus, i do hope that you will try to place less emphasis on basketball and actually on other sports.”

I think the writer has a very valid point and I thought I would share it with all of you because I am sure some of you feel this way.

I think you guys know that I’ve been trying to encourage as many of you to contribute to this site. Why? Because right now, I am the only one working on this site, and I can’t do it full-time because I still do non-sports photography shoots to fund this site. I am raising funds for this site so that I can do it full-time. At the moment, I’ve raised a total of $433.07 through one donation and six subscribers. I’ve also sold $194 worth of pictures to four different people. That’s about 3 dollars a day since I started.

Despite this, Red Sports now has 541 postings and thousands of pictures since 1st Feb 2007. I’ve received contributions from teachers and students but most of the stories are still generated by me and some good friends who have helped me for little or no money. However, I think you would agree that there is no other media out there that has provided you this level of coverage.

So I’ll keep going on. Now and then, you’ll have to excuse the skew in coverage because that’s all the time I can afford. Next week, it’s going to be nothing but netball action because of the 5 Nations Cup. So it will look like a netball site for awhile.

I’ve had a lot of fun doing this and I’ve meet wonderful athletes who take my breath away with their ability. I hope to meet more of you in the coming months and years so that I can tell your story.

Just remember to say, “Hello, uncle Les.”

Red Sports. Always Game.
