Kean Yew posted a 20–22, 15–21 defeat despite a hard-fought match against Malaysia's AB Latif Mohamad Arif. The Singaporean's bronze is the only Single's medal for the hosts.
Liang Xiaoyu won 2–0 while teammate Grace Chua lost by the same score. With this, the former qualifies for the quarter-final while the latter leaves the competition.
For the fourth time in a row, the Singapore men's 4x100m relay team had to settle for the silver. However, they smashed the national record by 0.21 seconds.
Singapore's Ang Chen Xiang breaks his own National Record with a time of 14.38 seconds in the heats, while compatriots Jannah Wong and Nur Izlyn post 14.28 seconds and 16.95 seconds to finish sixth and seventh in the finals respectively.
The previous National Record of 3 minutes and 43.85 seconds was set back in 1974 at the Asian Games in Iran. Posting a time of 3 minutes and 40.58 seconds, the Singapore team smashed the record by a great margin.
However, Cheng Wei was unable to break his personal best of 21.57s that was set last year in September.
Singapore's Lance Tan set a new Personal Best (PB) of 4,922 points in the Men's Decathlon, 161 points ahead of his old one set in March.
