Tagawa Blue rode on a greater strength in depth to outlast Minyi Youth in a top-of-the-table Group Y clash. With the 60-47 win, Tagawa Blue preserved their unbeaten record in the boys U17 competition.
It was by no means an easy game, although the scoreline shows that Minyi won with a comfortable 53-36 margin.
The Singapore Schools U17 boys' and girls' teams are currently leading their respective groups with wins in all their matches. The boys team currently leads their group standings with six wins out of six while the girls' team beat T-Net@Bukit Merah 64-36 in what must be their most difficult test so far.
This year's competition, set against the backdrop of Singapore's hosting of the Youth Olympic Games in August, promises to be more competitive with the non-inclusion of members selected for the YOG basketball 3-on-3 squads.
Kranji Primary showed their basketball pedigree when they defended both their junior and senior boys' titles on the same day. The junior boys team beat Chua Chu Kang Primary 63-36 while their seniors repeated the winning feat with a 46-22 victory over Anderson Primary.
Having already smashed the A division 200m backstroke meet record earlier in the day, Rainer Ng from Raffles Instituition (JC) returned in the evening to spark his team to a new meet record in the 4x50m A division boys medley relay of 1 min 46.31 seconds.
Fresh from their close semi-final wins, the Dunman and Jurong West Secondary girls faced off against each other for the second time in the National B Division Basketball Championship. This time though, it was the championship they were fighting for.
It was not that Chua Chu Kang Primary did not put up a fight. Chua Chu Kang had kept the game close till the end with David John (CCK #11) leading his team with 17 points.
