The West Zone C Division Basketball Championship kicked off with 10 games on the opening day and most victors secured comfortable win margins to commence their season.
A successful 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games outing was evident of Singapore's potential in the sporting industry and Singaporeans have to come together to build on the legacy of the Games, urged Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Lawrence Wong.
Singapore's 259 medals in the Games also surpasses the record of 164 medals (50 golds, 40 silvers and 74 bronzes) which was set in 1993, when the Games was last held at home.
Singaporeans Low Ji Wen, Vincent Ang, Goh Choon Huat and Darren Low finished in seventh, eighth, 19th and 23rd places respectively while fellow compatriots Noel Teh and Benedict Joseph Lee crashed out early in the race.
Cheryl Poon was the only Singaporean who scored in double figures, leading the team with 12 points. Yap Fook Yee and Eugene Ting led the visitors with 10 points each.
During the final jump off, both Chew and gold medalist Sharmini Ratnasingham of Malaysia had cleared the course with zero faults. However, the Singaporean, with her horse, Coquira, cleared the course a second later in 36.69 seconds.
