Catholic High School shook off their loss in the zonal final with a 2–0 (25–17, 25–18) win over Hwa Chong Institution (HCI) in the first round of the National C Division Boys Volleyball Championship.
Presbyterian High claimed the first six points, as Evergreen struggled to return their strong serves.
The PHS boys' team followed in the footsteps of their girls' team, who beat Evergreen Secondary 2–0 in the earlier final, to also clinch first place.
The win puts Holy Innocents' High third in Group Y with a 2–2 win-loss record, while Henderson fall to fourth with a 0–4 win-loss record.
Catholic High now top Group Y with a 4–0 win-loss record, while Fairfield Methodist fall to second with a 3–1 win-loss record.
Catholic High took the first point of the game, when Clive Ling (CHS #13) launched a nice spike that Fairfield Methodist was unable to return.
Cedar Girls' took control of the game in the first set, as they raced out to a 7–1 lead. Ang Mo Kio suffered early on as they struggled to keep the ball in play.
The win puts Kuo Chuan Presbyterian joint-fourth in the group with a 1–2 win–loss record. Yuying fall to a 2–1 win–loss record, they lie joint-second in the group alongside Anglo-Chinese School (Barker Road).
