National fencer and 2010 Youth Olympic Games representative Liane Wong stormed through the draw to secure gold for Catholic Junior College in the A Division Women’s Foil category.
Singapore Women fencers took home team golds on the third day of the Singapore Cadet Fencing World Cup. The Singapore women’s sabre team of Charlotte Teo, Yeo Mei Li, Janice Tan and Adnan Hanan beat Hong Kong in the final with a score of 45-39.
Singaporeans Valerie Tan and Yeo Meili won gold respectively in the Epee and Sabre finals on the second day of the Cadet World Cup.
Singapore fencers swept all medals on offer in the women’s foil event on the first day of the Cadet World Cup. Liane Wong, Singapore’s 2010 Youth Olympic Games representative, breezed through the preliminary rounds but had to display her big match experience in overcoming her national teammates in the latter rounds.
The 2011 Cadet World Cup (CWC) event will see close to 200 of the top young fencers from around the region doing battle here in the Republic over four days of heated competition. The CWC is into its second year, and will be held at Republic Polytechnic from Feb 24-27.
Novice fencers teamed up in the second weekend of the Novices Fencing Championships for team honours in yet another record setting weekend of fencing in Singapore. A total of 440 fencers competed in the individual events and 100 teams contested in the team events.
Singapore's Justin Ong and Rania Herlina Rahardja both lost 10-15 in the round of 16 to their higher-ranked fencing opponents.
Singapore's Rania Herlina Rahardjia bowed out at the Cadet Female Epee Round of 16 when she lost 10-15 to Korean Lee Hye Won. She advanced from the Pool round when she won her last bout against Palestinian Damyan Jaqman 5-2.
