Daniel Ling – the marathon king

It was a drizzly Wednesday on January 2 when I finally got to sit down to talk to Daniel Ling at Hwa Chong Institution. If you didn't already know, Daniel Ling was Singapore's fastest marathoner at the 2007 Singapore Marathon, coming home in a personal best time of 2 hours, 46 minutes and 29 seconds.

18-year-old Chinese breaks world junior marathon record – what did she eat?

Zhang Yingying of China won the Xiamen Marathon last weekend in a world junior record time of 2 hours, 22 minutes and 38 seconds. Her previous personal best of 2:27:20 was set three months before in only her second marathon, an improvement of almost five minutes.

“My name is Vivian — with an ‘a’.”

Vivian Tang was Singapore's fastest woman marathoner at the recent 2007 Singapore Marathon, finishing the race in a time of 3 hours, 1 minute and 17 seconds. Having known Vivian since 2004, I did a double take when I saw her name spelled as "Vivien" in the official website of the Singapore Marathon as well as in the mainstream newspapers.

An Interview with Alexandria Wong of Methodist Girls’ School

Alexandria Wong of Methodist Girls' School is a figure skater and a runner. The 14-year-old athlete will be in Secondary 3 in 2008 loves nature, adding to the pleasure of her cross-country training through woods and trails. Her sporting exploits have put her into the final round of the Singapore Sports Idol contest. Red Sports recently caught up with her for an interview.

City Hall, December 2, 2007 - In my quiet little corner in the east of Singapore, thousands of sweaty, exhausted and determined people run by once (or twice) a year on a pilgrimage to satisfy their craving for a runners' high, plodding along roads and concrete paths on their journey to victory.
