Youth Olympic Volleyball: Singapore girls put up gutsy display in loss to Japan

Despite starting the match positively with a tremendous display of teamwork, Singapore could not keep up their positive momentum early on in the first set as they lost in straight sets against Japan in Match 3 of Preliminary Pool A of Women’s volleyball. Japan were tactically more aware during the game as they concentrated their offensive on Singapore’s fast tiring defense towards the end, handing the hosts a concise 9-25, 16-25, 9-25 defeat.

“I could not wait to hold the torch …” – Quak Gu Ting, YOG torch bearer and Cedar Girls’ athlete

Two students from Cedar Girls’ Secondary were among the many torch bearers for today’s torch relay. Clara Poon, 16, a track and field athlete; and Quak Gu Ting, 14, a volleyballer, were nominated by their school to carry the flame through Singapore’s South East District.

The Youth Olympic Games are just around the corner and 130 Singaporean athletes will do battle in the red and white of Singapore. So feel free to express your best wishes to the athletes, especially if they are your teammates or your schoolmate, if they are your brother or your sister, if they are your son or your daughter.
