Beijing Olympics Update: Tao Li qualifies for the final of the women’s 100m Butterfly

18-year-old Tao Li qualified for the final of the women's 100m Butterfly and set a new national record with a time of 57.54 sec. She finished third in the first semi-final. Swimming in Lane 5, she finished behind Lisbeth Trickett and Christine Magnuson.

Beijing Olympics update: Shuttler Xing Aiying falls at first hurdle

Singapore shuttler Xing Aiying fell in the first round of the badminton event at the Beijing Olympics when she lost 19-21, 12-21 Olga Konon of Belarus. Ranked 24th in the world, Aiying had a good run-up to the Beijing Olympics, beating higher-ranked opponents in various tournaments.

Tao Li of Singapore won her heat to qualify for the next round in the 100m butterfly. Swimming in heat 4, Tao Li finished first ahead of Italian Ilaria Bianchi in a time of 57.77sec. The best 16 swimmers qualified for the next round.

US swim team train in Singapore before heading to Beijing Olympics

Anyone would have been upset if he had turned up for a swim at the pool on a hot day only to find out that it was closed to its members. Yet, no one seemed to mind that the Singapore Island Country Club pool was off limits during the peak recreational period as the US Olympic Swim Team went though their paces in preparation for the Olympic Games in Beijing.
