Raffles Institution beat Gan Eng Seng School 62-42 to capture the B Division South Zone Basketball Championship for the first time since 2001.
It came down to the final match of the group with a semi-final place at stake for both teams but it was Gan Eng Seng that prevailed 51-46 win to advance in the South Zone B Division Basketball Championship.
Gan Eng Seng Secondary emerged as one of the favorites to qualify for the National B Division Basketball Championship with a 56-33 win over Peicai Secondary in the second round of the South Zone Championship.
Peirce Secondary School scored the first 14 points of the game and beat Gan Eng Seng Secondary School 48-37 in a Boys’ B Division South Zone basketball Group X second round match.
The second round of the B Division South Zone Basketball matches got underway today, as Raffles Institution (RI), Peirce Secondary School (PS), Yuying Secondary School, Queensway Secondary and Singapore Chinese Girls' School (SCGS) kept up their unbeaten run in the tournament.
The B Division South Zone Basketball Championship concluded this week with 10 boys' team and six girls' teams making it through to the next round.
CHIJ Katong Convent (Secondary) made a clean sweep of the top positions in the National Schools’ Dragon Boat Championship for the B and C divisions for girls, while Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) took home top honours in B and C divisions for boys at the 9th National Schools’ Dragon Boat Championship 2009.
