Woon Wei Jing (RI #12) sank a three-pointer with less than 30 seconds on the clock to seal the victory for RI.
Ong Sin Kee (NYJC #6) and Dawn Liew (NJC #11) led all scorers with 16 points each.
Despite their strong start, VJC only managed to score just seven points in the second half, allowing NJC to take the 18-point win.
With the win, AJC will head into the second round with a perfect 4–0 win-loss record, while NJC will also advance as this is their only loss.
This is MJC's fourth straight win.
While HCI had the obvious lead throughout the race, the first runners-up were only decided in the final metre.
HCI's Naomi Louise Tan was second in 12.97s while third-placer Jerrine Lim of ACJC finished in 13.20s.
