Two years of cancelled A Division football proved insufficient to shake Victoria Junior College (VJC) from their winning ways, taking first place in the girls' competition for the eighth consecutive time.
With one swing of his boot, Victoria Junior College (VJC)’s Anton Yen Goh (#19) drove the ball into the bottom left corner of a gaping net, cueing thunderous roars from the Jalan Besar crowd at the first National Schools A Division boy’s football final since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. That strike 15 minutes into the first half turned out to be the first and only goal of the match, as the Victorians reclaimed the title their seniors surrendered to same opponents St. Andrew’s Junior College (SAJC) three years ago.
Helped by a strong defence, a dominant scrum and a top try scoring rookie, Anglo-Chinese Junior College beat St Andrew's Junior College 54-0 on aggregate to finish third in this year's A Division Rugby National School Games.
“This year we didn’t have a dream team,” said Ahmad between breaths, after the match. “But we had a team with a dream.” The 18-year-old could not quite wrap his head around the scenes that had unraveled. His side’s dream run had culminated in a fiery encounter against VJC in only SAJC’s first final appearance since 2014, and the Saints had just stunned the Jalan Besar crowd with a flattering 4-1 win to clinch their maiden championship title.
St. Andrew's Junior College (SAJC) narrowly edged past last year's silver medalists Tampines Meridian Junior College (TMJC) on penalties, to book their first ever spot in the final since 2014. The match went into penalties as the game was tied 1-1 after extra time.
Victoria Junior College proved their prowess once again in a 3-0 win over St. Andrew's Junior College (SAJC). This win is VJC's seventh consecutive title in the National A Division Football Girls' Championship.
