The visitors to Singapore this weekend may be the ABL title favourites, but the Philippine Patriots will be extra pleased to learn that the Brunei Barracudas had in fact cracked the Singapore Slingers code in their ABL season opener last weekend.
The Slingers play their next game in the ABL this Sunday, October 18, 2009, at 4pm at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
“Be surprised,†the Slingers’ head coach Frank Arsego had said of his captaincy choice before their ABL season tipped off last Sunday. Staying true to his word, Arsego has unveiled a unique co-captaincy formula with Kyle Jeffers and Michael Wong sharing the honour.
The Singapore Slingers started their ASEAN Basketball League campaign on the right note with a 87-69 victory over the Brunei Barracudas but the poor home crowd was a talking point.
Finally, after four games, I got to see what I wanted to see: home boy Hong Wei Jian with a two-handed dunk in a competitive game for the Singapore Slingers.
The usual suspects carried the scoring load for the Slingers, with Michael LeBlanc scoring 20 points and Kyle Jeffers adding 15 to lead five Slingers in double figures. The latter was a monster on the boards, cleaning up for 20 rebounds, while LeBlanc had 10 of his own for a double-double as well.
