Joseph Schooling’s Olympic success last year underscored the unconditional love and support his parents offered though the years. In the more humble environment of the national schools cross country scene, parents such as Lim Ming Jee are no less important, the crucial cogs that often make or break a student’s sporting pursuit.
It came down to each school’s fourth-fastest B Division runner – ACS(I) had Joshua Loo in 11th, while HCI’s George Lai was 15th.
Defending champions St.Andrew’s (SA) Secondary School tasted defeat for the first time in this year’s National B Division Hockey Championship when they lost to Raffles Institution (RI) 1-0 in a Round 2 group game.
The win gives RI their first final appearance since 2012 when they lost 7-15 to the Saints. The result also meant St Andrew’s will miss out on the final for the first time since 2013.

The win allowed ACS(I) to complete a grand slam of A, B, and C Division titles for the first time since 2011, and their eighth since 1997.
Saints were undefeated in their four games, starting the day with a 17-12 win over Anglo-Chinese School (Independent).
A sudden-death try in extra-time by Benjamin Poey (#15) helped ACS(I) triumph over St. Andrew's and defend their B Division rugby title. The match had ended 12–12 at full-time.
