The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) beat the National University of Singapore (NUS) 59-47 to win the men’s basketball title at the 2007 Singapore Unversity Games (SUniG).

The game started at a furious pace and NUS started strongly with Bandar Tjetty (#9) dropping two consecutive three-pointers to lift the spirits of his team. By the end of the quarter, NUS trailed the favourites NTU only by three (11-14).

In the second quarter, a driving NUS team put together a run that had NTU on the back foot. Trailing 12-18, Bandar Tjetty (#9) dropped another three-pointer to make it 15-18. This was quickly followed by a layup from Fabien Apheceix (#2) and it was suddenly a one-point game (17-18).

But NTU put a stop to the NUS drive and reeled off five straight points on two consecutive and controversial foul calls that had the NUS coach aruging with the referee’s table. Stuck on 17 points, NUS could do little to stop NTU from pulling away to 28-17 with 3:20 left on the clock in the second. By half-time, NTU led by eight at 30-22.

With NUS relying heavily on Bandar Tjetty for points, they clawed to within six points (30-36) at 5:38 on the third quarter clock. Despite creating scoring opportunities for themselves continually, NUS faltered in sinking the baskets, leading their coach to throw his clipboard to the floor in disgust.

By the tail end of the fourth quarter, NTU made NUS pay for all their missed baskets and led by 17 points (52-38) before finally wrapping up the game 59-47.
