River Valley High, Friday, February 29, 2008 – In a David-versus-Goliath match up, minnows Nan Hua High stunned perennial favourites Nanyang Girls’ High 19-16 to win themselves a place in the West Zone B Division Netball Championship Final. In a previous group stage match, Nanyang Girls’ had narrowly beaten Nan Hua 21-20. The scoreline demonstrated that Nan Hua were no pushovers and meeting Nanyang Girls’ in the semi-final was a chance for Nan Hua to exact revenge.

The match started brightly with Nanyang taking a 5-4 lead in the 1st quarter. However, Nan Hua fought back in the 2nd quarter to take the lead 9-8 by half-time. Both teams battled intensely with defensive strategies, hoping to force their opponents into committing errors and turnovers. Nan Hua held on to their advantage in the 3rd quarter and entered the final quarter still leading by a single point.

In the final quarter, Nan Hua managed to pull away with a 3-point advantage after successful conversions through the turnovers committed by Nanyang. By then, it was too late although Nanyang attempted to fight back. The underdogs Nan Hua emerged victorious and will now face another giant, Methodist Girls’ School in the West Zone Championship Final.
