Taraz, Kazakhstan, Tuesday, June 3, 2008 – The Singapore National Women's Rugby team scored a historic first international win with a resounding 38-0 win over Krgystan in their first match of the Asian Women's Rugby Championship played in Taraz, Kazakhstan.

This is the first full 15-a-side win for the Singapore women's team since its inception in 2006, and closely follows the seven-a-side SEA Games silver medal claimed in December 2007. The team left on Sunday, June 1, to compete in the annual championship, enduring over 26 hours of travel to reach their hotel.

"This is a wonderful result for both Singapore Rugby and Women's rugby. For the girls who have dedicated the last couple of months to training it is a truly deserved win," said Mr Ian Bremner, Singapore Rugby's CEO. "I have sent my congratulations to coaches Marcus Yeo and Peerose Shah to pass on to the girls, and hopefully they will pull off another win."

The team opened the scoring through a penalty (Wang Shao Ing) in the 4th minute and ran in seven tries through Angela Zheng (3 tries), Derelyn Chua (1 try) Eunice Tay (1 try), Clarissa Lim (1 try) & Wang Shao Ing (1 try).
