National Inter-School A Division Boys Floorball Championship: Tampines Sports Complex, Wednesday, July 16, 2008 – In their final match of the season, both Anglo-Chinese Junior College (ACJC) and Innova Junior College (IJC) were gunning for a win. It was impressive to see both teams playing their hearts out but ultimately it was ACJC who prevailed 4-1 over IJC.

ACJC stunned IJC with a goal at the 05:42 mark when ACJC Muhammad Mirza (#4) knocked the ball into goal after receiving an assisted pass,. IJC responded almost straight away, scoring less than a minute later when Harry Neo (#13) volleyed in a ball to make it 1-1 to cheers from the whole IJC team. The IJC goalkeeper Muhammad Zakaria (#69) held the fort despite the barrage of on-target from ACJC to keep his team in the game. Still, ACJC Nicholas Yin (#14) finally managed to get through the tight defense with exceptional dribbling and propelled in a goal at 14:41 on the clock to make it 2-1.

For the second period, despite the unceasing efforts by IJC to find an equalizer, the ACJC wall of defense held firm. Both sides yielded no ground and the second period eventually ended without any goals.

In the third period, the match was getting more aggressive and fierce and one of the ACJC players was sent out for two minutes due to a scuffle. With a numerical advantage, it was up to IJC to capitalize on the power play opportunity. Unfortunately for them, ACJC sent out their best players to deal with the situation and IJC just could not penetrate. Not long after, in spite of all the near misses beforehand, Cheong Baoren (#15) of ACJC finally managed to hammer in two stylish goals at 10:41 and 11:27 to effectively seal the match 4-1 for his team.

Although IJC did not managed to win a single game this season, it is heartwarming to see them being so passionate about floorball. Extra credit should be given to IJC’s captain Ang Kok Liang (#9) for boosting the team morale and providing a strong and commanding presence in the game. Kudos also goes to ACJC for being the best new team of the season with two wins in hand.
