Republic Polytechnic beat Nanyang Polytechnic 5-3 last week to capture the men’s Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Floorball Championship but their women counterparts succumbed 1-4 to the Singapore Institute of Management.

The RP win avenged their stunning overtime loss to NYP in last year’s IVP Floorball Championship final where NYP came back from 2-5 down in the final period to drag the game into overtime to eventually win 6-5.

RP goals came through Ahmad Kamil Bin Razali (2), Attar Shameid Sawawai (2) and Ahmad Afzal Mohd Kassin (1). NYP replied through Johnson Sivalingam and Jatin Nair (2).

Stella Chia scored a hat-trick for SIM in their 4-1 win over RP, with teammate Ong Hui Shan accounting for the fourth goal. Marie Satuito scored the lone RP goal.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) men’s team finished third with a 5-4 win over the Nanyang Technological University while the NUS women finished third with a 3-1 victory over Temasek Polytechnic.

Republic Polytechnic and and Nanyang Polytechnic are through to the final of the men’s 2009 Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Floorball Championship.

RP beat the National University of Singapore 3-1 with goals by Ahmad Afzal, Ahar Shaheed and Mckenrick Lim. Benjamin Ang scored the lone goal for NUS.

In the other semi-final, NYP saw off the challenge of the Nanyang Technological University 4-1. Lee Jun Wei, Jatin (2) and Herman were the NYP goal scorers with Tan Kai Yong scoring the only goal for NTU.

Both RP and NYP had finished top of their respective groups and remain unbeaten in the championship.

In the women’s championship, the Singapore Institute of Management beat NUS 1-0 to earn their spot in the final through a solitary goal by Stella Chia.

In the other semi-final, RP beat Temasek Polytechnic 2-1 to make it a double final appearance for the polytechnic. Kong Yun Ting and Reena Wong were the RP scorers while Hazirah bte Mohd Salleh got the only goal for TP.

TP had won their group with a perfect 4-wins-0-losses record while RP had earned their semi-final place at the expense of NTU by virtue of having a better goal difference. Both RP and NTU had finished their group games tied on points.

The IVP Floorball finals are slated for Friday, January 23rd, at ITE. The women’s final between SIM and RP will start at 6.30pm followed by the men’s final at 8pm.

Defending men’s champions Nanyang Polytechnic won their first game of the season with a 5-2 win over Ngee Ann Polytechnic in a Group B Institute-Varsity Polytechnic (IVP) Floorball Championship match.

NYP had drawn their first group game 7-7 against the National University of Singapore.

Last year’s losing finalists Republic Polytechnic, demolished the Nanyang Technological University 5-0 to record their second straight group win.

The Singapore Management University notched their first win of the campaign with a 3-2 win over Singapore Polytechnic to improve to a 1-win-1-loss record. SP have now lost two in a row and have a 0-2 record.

In the women’s championship, Temasek Polytechnic won their second in a row with a 3-1 win over Ngee Ann Polytechnic. NUS recorded a whopping 10-0 win over Singapore Polytechnic to start their campaign while Ngee Ann Polytechnic condemned Singapore Polytechnic to a second loss with a comfortable 4-0 win.

The Republic Polytechnic men’s floorball team started off their Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Floorball Championship with a whopping 12-3 thrashing of Singapore Polytechnic in a Group A game.

Nanyang Technological University beat Singapore Management University 3-1 in another Group A game.

In the women’s competition, Temasek Polytechnic whipped Singapore Polytechnic 9-1 while Nanyang Polytechnic registered a 5-3 win over Ngee Ann Polytechnic.

The Republic Polytechnic women had no problems managing the Singapore Management University with a 6-3 win in their first Group B game of the Institute-Varsity-Polytechnic (IVP) Floorball Championship.

Ngee Ann Polytechnic started their IVP Floorball Championship campaign with a 3-2 win over the Singapore Institute of Management (SIM) in a men’s Group B match.

In another Group B men’s game, Nanyang Polytechnic and the National University of Singapore battled to a 7-7 draw.

The IVP Floorball Championship started on, January 5th, at Tampines Sports Hall, with 9 women’s and 9 men’s teams contesting their respective championships.

IVP floorball season runs from January 5th to January 23rd, 19 days (download fixtures).
