Defending champions Singapore Armed Forces FC won their second game in a row with an easy 2-0 victory over Geylang United in the S.League Football Championship. Goals from John Wilkinson and Aleksandar Duric within a three-minute spell in the first half were enough to vault SAFFC to the top of the table and ahead of Gombak United on goal difference.

Gombak United beat Super Reds 1-0 to notch their second win by the same margin. An Agu Casmir goal three minutes from the end of regulation time ensured three somewhat fortunate points.

Home United, playing at Clementi Stadium, their new home ground, beat Balestier Khalsa 3-0 to register their first win of the 2009 season. Kengne Ludovick scored two goals – one from the penalty spot – to sandwich a Peres de Oliveira free-kick goal.

National team striker Indra Sahdan scored his first goal for new club Sengkang Punggol to deliver a 1-0 win over Japanese team Albirex Niigata.

The Young Lions under new coach Terry Pathmanathan almost scored their first win of the season against S.League newcomers Brunei DPMM FC. A goal by S.League new boy Khairul Nizam gave the Young Lions a 1-0 lead which they held until the last minute of extra-time when they conceded the equaliser.
