Choa Chu Kang Sports Hall, Friday, May 8, 2009 – Innova JC swept aside newcomers River Valley High School 4-0 in the A Division Girls Floorball Championship, making it one of their best games of the season.

River Valley being a relatively new team in the floorball scene, it was no doubt that they put on a good fight against the more experienced team from IJC. But despite holding on strong in the first period, which did not see any goals scored from both sides, IJC clearly had more shots on goal.

The second period saw the start of IJC’s scoring streak. Nur Ashyura (IJC #16) attempted a shot from the half line, but the River Valley keeper Woo Yue Ting (RV #9) was quick thinking enough to block the shot with her body.

Another good attempt was from River Valley’s captain, Jaslin Tey (RV #21), who did a three quarter turn but failed to aim accurately at the goalpost.

Just when many thought that the second period will end in a goalless draw, Nurwidayu (IJC #3) found a chance to give a quick tap into the goalpost and brought the score to 1-0.

The third period proceeded on with Eileen Neo (RV #5) sent off for incorrect substitution. Taking advantage of the 4 vs 3 situation, Cheryl Sim (IJC #23) scored from the half line, sending the ball into the top left corner of the goalpost.

With what it appeared for history to repeat itself, Goh Zhi Jun (RV #23) was sent out, this time round for the repeated offence of slashing. Nur Ashyura (IJC #16) jumped on this opportunity as she found an excellent spot to tap the ball towards the goal. Unfortunately for her, the ball was caught in between the River Valley keeper’s legs.

With four minutes of game time to go, Chew Zeng Yee (IJC #8) scored the third goal for IJC from the left side, managing to avoid the River Valley keeper’s defence while team mate Nurulhuda (IJC #6) helped to screen as well.

Even as the game neared the end, Nurwidayu (IJC #3) continued fighting on and tapped the ball in from the left side to seal the win for IJC. With just 30 seconds left, there was nothing River Valley could do as the game ended with a final score of 4-0.

Despite the loss, River Valley indeed put up a valiant effort in holding off IJC. Well done girls!
