Saturday, June 20, 2009 – A Filipino football player was warded on Friday, June 19, for Infleunza A (H1N1) even before his team could play the first game against Chinese Taipei today.

All Filipino games in Group A have been cancelled as a result. The player arrived in Singapore on June 18 and came down with a fever the day after.

The 14-year-old player and his teammates are quarantined at Aloha Resorts and his condition is stable.

A total of 20 members of the Philippines football team are now quarantined at the Aloha Resort. They comprise 17 players, two team officials and one doctor.

“The bottom line is the games will go on but we will do it safely,” said sports minister Vivian Balakrishnan. “The plans are in place. As time goes by, as the week evolves, the plan will have to evolve with time.”
