Two students from Nanyang Primary School set three out of the 13 new records at the recently concluded 50th Inter-Primary Track and Field Championships.

11-year-old Lim Ying set new records in the 100m (13.72s) and 200m (28.71s) for C-Girls.

“I just tried my best to finish the race. I was a bit nervous before the (200m final) race,” said the Primary 5 student. Lim Ying broke the old 200m record of 28.94s* with a time of 28.77s in the heats and then broke her own record in the final with her 28.71s timing.

Lim Ying also competed in the 4x100m relay where her team finished second.

Teammate Vanessa Low also got in on the record-setting act when she won the 80m Hurdles gold in a time of 15.38s. The 10-year-old Vanessa had already broken the old record of 15.86s** in her heats with a 15.81s timing and she improved on the timing with a good final performance.

“I was surprised I broke the record,” said Vanessa who is in Primary 4. Vanessa also won gold in the long jump with a 3.76m leap and came in first with the D-Division 4x100m relay team.

She was very determined to break the record,” said Mr Lim Chee Min, teacher-in-charge of track and field at Nanyang Primary.

“Vanessa’s record was unexpected,” said a happy Nanyang track and field coach, Mr Chu Seow Beng.
