Raffles Institution, Tuesday, August 11, 2009 – Raffles Institution beat Montfort Secondary 27-0 in a C Division Rugby Championship quarter-final game.
It was a little bit of wind, a little bit of sunshine and a whole lot of action with Raffles and Montfort both up for it, both schools playing with a fire in their hearts.
The first half saw the possession of the ball changing hands every other minute but it was the Raffles #12 who scored the first try within 4 minutes.
With all the pushing and tackling, a team effort saw Raffles pushing their way in for a try.
At half-time RI led 10-0.
After 15 minutes of struggling to gain possession of the ball in the second half, Raffles once again scored a touchdown for a 15-0 lead.
Eight minutes later, Raffles #19 once again scored 5 points, with #14 scoring another conversion for a dominating 22-0 scoreline.
With just 6 minutes before the end of the game, the Raffles #12 used his incredible speed and scored once again another try.
Though RI won 27-0, it wasn’t a one-sided match.

Both team play super well.

Uncle les the first half score is 10 – 0 not 12 – 0.
@Feng Hua: Thanks!
Great result for Montford to be within 27 points of the team to face ACS in the semi finals after they beat them by 80 points in less than 50 minutes is a good result and they should be congratulated – It may be that raffles are short of players with the injuries that they have had – even so they (montford ) did well

This contributor is still enthusiastic enough to write about rugby despite getting whacked in an earlier post.
I didn’t convince this secondary school writer to contribute again and so if you don’t want this to be the last C Division rugby story for 2009 (or even next year), just stick to factual corrections.
If you have any opinion about the game, please feel free to share it, but leave the contributor alone. I’ll delete anything that attacks the writer.
