The National Youth Council (NYC) is inviting nominations for the Singapore Youth Award (SYA) 2010.

The SYA is the highest national youth accolade conferred upon youths in Singapore who have excelled in their fields of endeavour and have contributed significantly to the community.

There are five award categories:
Arts and Culture
Community and Youth Services
Entrepreneurship
Science and Technology
Sports and Adventure

Since its establishment in 1975, SYA has recognised 122 individuals and 40 youth organisations. Some of the past winners of the Sports and Adventure award include swimmer Joscelin Yeo, sailor Dr Ben Tan, adventurer Khoo Swee Chiow and bowler Remy Ong.

Six outstanding young individuals were conferred the SYA 2009 by Senior Minister and Co-ordinating Minister for National Security, Professor S. Jayakumar at the Istana on 5 July 2009.

Eligibility Criteria

Nominees must be Singapore citizens. Permanent residents of five years and longer are also eligible.

Nominees should be 35 years old and below as of 1 January 2010.

Nominees must be of good character.

The achievements and community involvement of nominees must total at least three years. They can be accumulated over different time periods and in different fields.

For teams, the majority of the members (60% of team or more) should meet all the above criteria.

Teams should be in existence for at least five consecutive years.

Nominees' achievements may be in the course of their work, an extension of their
work or an extra-curricular activity.
