Presbyterian High School, Tuesday, March 9, 2010 - Xinmin Secondary cemented top spot in Group A of the National B Division Girls Volleyball Championship after sweeping aside Yuying Secondary 2-0 (25-17, 25-11).
Having already qualified for the quarter-finals after beating Shuqun Secondary and Ngee Ann Secondary in their earlier group matches, Xinmin were the favourites for this match. Yuying gave Xinmin a good fight in the first set, but Xinmin powered ahead to a 19-12 lead.
Xinmin were soon at set point after a drop shot by their setter. Xinmin took the set 25-17 after Rachael (Xinmin #1) successfully blocked a drop shot by the Yuying #7.
Xinmin started off the second set on a good footing. Despite the first point being lost when Xinmin served the ball out, they quickly regained service and blitzed to an 8-3 lead. Yuying seemed to be affected by their first set loss, and could not break Xinmin's scoring streak. With steady serves from Qihui (Xinmin #6), and Yuying being unable to organize any significant attack, Xinmin extended their lead to 16-3.
Yuying finally stopped Xinmin's onslaught when their #12 spiked a cross court ball to the line. On the next rally, a bad set by Yuying into the hands of a waiting Jaime (Xinmin #18) Yuying saw the ball being smashed back into their court.
Xinmin stepped up their game to finish off the set quick, and were at match point (24-11) after Qihui (Xinmin #6) forced a touch out with her spike. Jacqueline (Xinmin #7) took home the last point for the team when her serve deflected off the Yuying #12.
