Presbyterian High School, Monday, March 22, 2010 - It must have been sweet revenge for Chung Cheng High (Yishun) when they defeated Anderson Secondary 2-0 (25-15, 25-19) in the quarter-finals of the National C Division Girls Volleyball Championship. Chung Cheng had earlier lost to Anderson in the North Zone final.

The Anderson #8 took the first point with a spike, but Chung Cheng's free ball on the next rally clipped the net and changed direction, catching Anderson off guard. A light spike from Wen Ting (Chung Cheng #5) saw Chung Cheng take the next point.

Wen Ting (Chung Cheng #5) dominated the net action in the early half of the set, sending many good balls into the Anderson court. Soon, they commanded a 10-3 lead over Anderson.

Chung Cheng capitalized on the free balls from Anderson to pound it into the latter's court. Chung Cheng also made use of gaps in Anderson's defence to score point after point, eventually increasing their lead to 18-8.

Anderson tried to put up a fight, and managed to block off Chung Cheng's advances momentarily. However, Chung Cheng were soon at set point after a spike down the line. Chung Cheng were unable to take the next point after a bad block by Wen Ting (Chung Cheng #5).

Fiona (Chung Cheng #7) could not receive a serve by the Anderson #8 to see the score stand at 24-14. Another bad receive, this time by the Chung Cheng libero saw Anderson take another point. However, Wen Ting (Chung Cheng #5) sealed the set for the team after she sent her spike straight to the Anderson #8, who deflected it out of bounds.

Chung Cheng took the first point in the second set when the Anderson #7's attempt at a short ball went into the net. Anderson then deflected Yan Ning’s (Chung Cheng #1) serve out of bounds to trail 2-0. Despite leveling at 2-2, Anderson saw Chung Cheng blitz to an early lead again. A time out at 8-2 by Anderson was of no use as Chung Cheng continued their scoring streak.

Chung Cheng commanded a huge lead at 12-3, and then at 16-8. However, Anderson were not going to go down without a fight. They tried to catch up, and narrowed the score gap to 21-16, leading to a time out by Chung Cheng.

The Anderson #7 led the attacks and scored several points for the team, taking the next point as well. However, the Chung Cheng setter Vanessa (#3) hooked the ball backwards into an empty spot to stop Anderson's comeback.

Yan Ning (Chung Cheng #1) deflected her spike off the Anderson blocker to bring the score to 23-17. They were denied a quick match point when Wen Ting (Chung Cheng #5) served out. However, they took match point at the next rally when Anderson could not receive Chung Cheng's spike.

The Anderson #8 denied Chung Cheng a quick win when she tapped a light ball over, causing Fiona’s (Chung Cheng #7) receive to go awry. However, all was over as the Anderson #10 served the ball out, gifting the last point to Chung Cheng.

Chung Cheng and Anderson are drawn in Group Y alongside Cedar Girls’ Secondary and Bukit Panjang Government High. Cedar will play Chung Cheng on Thursday, March 25 at 1pm. Bukit Panjang will then face Anderson at 1.50pm. Both matches will be played at CCAB.

The B and C Division Girls matches will be played at both Presbyterian High and CCAB.
