East Coast Park, Sunday, August 15, 2010 — The first gold medal of the inaugural Youth Olympic Games has been picked up by Japanese Yuka Sato in the women’s Triathlon competition.

While Sato scooped the gold in 1:00:49.69, Singapore’s Clara Wong faltered in the cycling leg of the event, registering an uncharacteristically slow time of 47 minutes which was last in the field.

She finished her 750 metre swim leg in nine minutes and 58 seconds to place 11th, and was 18th when the 20 kilometre cycling leg began.

Clara finished that portion with 58:37 on the clock, and completed her five kilometre run in 22:53 to register a final time of one hour, 21 minutes and 30.85 seconds.
