Presbyterian High, Friday, March 4, 2011 — Jurong Secondary have booked a spot in the second round of the National B Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship after sweeping aside Yuying Secondary in their Group B match 2-0 (25-13, 25-11).

Jurong proved that they were the favourites to win right from the start as they took hold of the lead. However, Yuying continued to keep close, eventually leveling the scores at 6-6 after a serve from the Yuying #9. Yuying were not about to trouble Jurong for long as the latter quickly regained their footing and asserted their dominance, running off to a 15-8 lead.

Jurong’s attacks were a constant threat to Yuying as the latter’s defenses fell at the hands of the Jurong spikers. A relaxed Jurong were able to seal the first set 25-13.

The second set was no different from the first as Jurong continued their dominance. Jurong made several changes to their line up as they fielded several of their reserves to play out the set. Despite a close start, Jurong quickly stormed ahead to lead 16-5, prompting a second timeout from Yuying. It made little difference as Jurong went on a scoring streak to lead 23-11.

Jurong subsequently took match point after Rachel Lau’s (Jurong #12) serve was deflected out of bounds. They then took home the last point with a Tan Libing (Jurong #9) spike.
