B Division East Zone Netball: Greenview beat Dunman 37-28 to take championship title

Dunman Secondary, Friday, March 4, 2011 — Greenview Secondary beat Dunman Secondary 37-28 to win the B Division East Zone Netball Championship title.

The first quarter saw Dunman giving Greenview a head start. The dominating Greenview goal shooter Xin Hui had no difficulties overcoming Dunman’s defence. Her sharp shooting allowed her team to enter second quarter with an 11-5 lead.

In the second quarter, Dunman changed their Goal Shooter to Goal Keeper to add some height to their defense. However, good positioning by Xin Hui (Greenview GS) helped the feeders to send balls into her hands easily.

Inaccurate passing and several unforced errors by Dunman gifted Greenview several turnovers which were converted by their shooters, allowing Greenview to extend the lead to 23-11.

A five-minute half-time gave Dunman a chance to calm down. The third quarter saw Dunman tidying up their play and tighten their defence while their shooters narrowed the deficit to five points at 21-26. However, Dunman lost focus in the last few minutes of the third quarter to trail by seven (21-28) at the end of the third.

In the fourth quarter, the Greenview GS Xin Hui again adjusted to Dunman’s defence while her co-shooter had more variety of movements. This helped Greenview to extend their lead to 37-25, making the game effectively over for Dunman. Dunman managed to score three more goals before Greenview wrapped up the title with a 37-28 victory.

Greenview’s coach Bok commented: “I am happy for the win. I told them that they needed to persevere and not give up. Our shooter’s larger build contributed to the victory. I am looking forward to finishing in the top four in nationals.”
