Jurong East Sports Complex, Monday, April 18, 2011 – Having won the zonal B Division title earlier this year, Singapore Chinese Girls’ School completed the zonal double over arch-rivals Raffles Girls’ School with a 50-38 win in the final of the South Zone C Division Basketball Championship.

SCGS playmaker Chloe Alphonso (#5) was crucial in leading her team to a comfortable win as she broke through the Raffles defense regularly with her speed and skills. SCGS never looked back after taking the lead in the first quarter, to the delight of their vocal fans which included their principal and vice-principal in the stands.

On the other hand, Raffles struggled throughout the game against the intensive full court man-to-man press of their opponents and turned the ball over on numerous possessions, to the frustration of their coaches.

Yet Raffles did make a valiant comeback in the fourth quarter after trailing by as much as many 20 points, on the back of some good inside work by their centre #14 Nicole Soepranoto, who was the tallest player of the competition.

Catholic High beat Queensway Secondary 69-42 for the boys’ South Zone title in the other final match played later in the day.
