Yio Chu Kang Sports Hall, Monday, February 20, 2012 — Anderson Secondary came back from one set down to beat Sembawang Secondary 2-1 (15-25, 25-16, 25-20) in the 3rd/4th placing match of the North Zone B Division Girls’ Volleyball Championship.

Despite Anderson eventually dominating the match with 34 kills compared to Sembawang’s 14 kills, they had a dismal first set with numerous unforced errors in their play.

Sembawang had troubled Anderson right at the start. Anderson encountered problems in their receives as they gifted many points away for Sembawang to lead 15-6. Anderson made changes to their lineup in a bid to turn things around but it was to no avail as Sembawang continued their scoring streak.

Soon, Sembawang were well ahead leading 22-14, and were soon at set point after a line fault by Anderson. Sembawang unfortunately sent their serve into the net but a miscommunication by Anderson in the next rally saw no one go for the second touch.

Anderson were however in much different form in the second set as they started to make more kills. They led 9-3 at the start and left Sembawang to play catch up. Despite Sembawang managing to close in, they were unable to turn the tables as Anderson embarked on a scoring streak to blitz ahead.

At the 18-10 mark, Sembawang called a timeout but it could not break Anderson’s momentum as the latter continued ahead to lead 24-16 after a spike from the outside by Denise (Anderson #7). Jolly (Anderson #4) thundered her spike down the line in the rally to seal the set for her team.

It was a close start to the third set, but Anderson were quick to pull ahead.

After being neck and neck at the start, Anderson gradually established a comfortable 16-11 lead. Sembawang were not going down easy as they tried to keep themselves in the game despite Anderson leading 24-18. Sembawang managed to hold off Anderson for two points, but Anderson sealed the set after their spike was deflected out of bounds by Sembawang.
