Singapore, Wednesday, October 17, 2012 — 20,000 runners have registered to take part in the upcoming Nike We Run SG 10K race this Sunday, October 21st.
Approximately 395,500 other runners from 32 cities around the world are also taking part in corresponding Nike We Run races. The global race kicked off on September 1st, in Prague, Czech Republic, and will conclude on December 15th in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Singapore’s scenic skyline will be the backdrop for the race this year. The first wave of the race will flag off at 7.15am on the Esplanade Bridge and runners will finish at the Waterfront Promenade @ Marina Bay.
In the lead up to the run this Sunday, Nike rolled out digital missions via social media platforms to motivate runners in their race training.
In the ‘High Miler’ Mission, which ran from October 9th to 12th, runners who ran the most during this period won special badges that could be used to to customise their race tees. To participate in this mission, runners were required to sync with Nike+ and share their runs on Twitter using #WERUN #SG.
The recently concluded ‘Rock Your Run’ mission gave runners the chance to share their power songs, which will be played on race day.
Furthermore, runners syncing their runs on Nike+ will all be contributing to a good cause as Nike has pledged to donate SGD$1 with every kilometre clocked on Nike+ (up to a total of SGD$10,000) from now until the race day. Proceeds will go towards the Andrew and Grace Home for troubled teenagers.
Nike also organised three training clinics between September 26th and October 11th at several locations for school participants as well as runners from the general public. The training clinics saw close to 1,000 runners in total go on five- and seven-kilometre routes, and also incorporated warm-up exercises and tips for race preparation.
The clinics also gave runners a chance to trial Nike’s latest LunarGlide+ 4 Shield.
Nike Athletes, Renuka Satianathan, Sumiko Tan, Vivian Tang and Jason Lawrence, were also present at the final training run on October 11th to share their personal training tips, join in the fun and run alongside the participants.
